Lesson Number 3: Be Prepared For The Worst When You Ask For Opinions:

Opinions are like A**holes: Everybody has one. So, when you are asking others for theirs, don't be offended or upset by what you get back. Granted, some opinions may surprise you in both good and bad ways; but frankly, you asked for it.

I have been very surprised by reactions regarding a certain dress I was interested in. My biggest mistake was of course asking for the opinions of others. People who have been in my very situation before know exactly what I'm talking about. It's not that you don't love the people you ask for opinions from. You do love them, obviously, or you wouldn't have decided to include them in the biggest decisions in your life (up to this point). But, when you invite too many cooks to the kitchen (to quote a wise soul), you may end up with quite a catastrophe on your hands.

But how are they supposed to know how you feel when you slip THE DRESS on? No feeling is like it, I can definitely say that. There are millions of pretty dresses out there. And there are a few that you actually like and that actually look good on your body. But, when you put on the dress that you can actually see yourself wearing down the aisle, you get this indescribable feeling of happiness, excitement, joy and even a maybe a little bit of terror. Terror because you know that you are making one of the biggest decisions you will ever make in your life. Instead of being just you, you are becoming an "us." You suddenly realize the weight of the decision you are making and realize that not only are you about to be living for yourself, you're living for someone else too. No matter how long you've known someone, this time is different. When you put on that dress and you feel all of those emotions and you also somehow manage to feel more beautiful than you could ever have imagined feeling...it all is a bit overwhelming! And so when you reach out to others to see how they feel as well, no reaction can compare to the one you just had! So, you just have to let it go and make the choice that is best for you. They will love you anyway, even if they don't understand or agree. How can you blame someone for their reaction? You just can't.

Did we mention the part where you haven't even set a date, or found a location, or a church, or finalized the entire wedding party?!

It's a lot.

But, I would not have changed dress shopping for anything. I know it was an INSANE thing to do, but I am so happy I did it! I was able to feel amazing and beautiful and hopefully all those things that my fiance sees in me everyday. I am so happy to know that when I walk down the aisle, in whatever I decide to wear, I will feel stunning. I will feel amazing.

And I'll be wearing it while walking towards my best friend!

Now that I felt all of that?

I AM READY TO HAVE FUN BEING ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!

Now...let's discuss some ideas for that free engagement photo shoot we won!!! :-D woo hoo!
