Thank you Target and your amazing back-to-school sales! Because of you, I was able to feed my own inability to resist wedding magazines, craftiness and planning/obsessing and make a wonderful, fabulous wedding planning bible of sorts. My new pink best friend...or...Bertha, as she shall now be known as.
Bertha and I are going to be quite close over the next 24 months, I can tell. The binder itself was $2 (SALE!). Then, I also purchased some multi-colored tabs for $1 (SALE!). I picked up a copy of Real Simple Weddings magazine for $13.95. The magazine also included a free 12 month subscription to Real Simple magazine (which I love), so I really bought 13 magazines for $13.95! (kinda SALE!) So, for a grand total of...well, I don't do math, but like way less than $20, I can breathe a HUGE sigh of relief!
Everybody has been telling me "slow down, have fun, etc." but if you know me, you know I'm a spaz. Especially about money. I was so discouraged Friday evening thinking about the lack of money we have and it was really getting me down. I was able to sit down and have an honest conversation with myself and then after putting the binder together, with my fiance. We were able to look at our finances (combined...which is new for us, since we normally just split things 50/50), and say "ok, this is how much we can set aside in the next 18 months, and this is what our actual budget will be, with this much of a cushion/honeymoon fund." There was also a great article about a fantastic bride who was able to have the wedding of her dreams with only $9,000! Yay confidence!!
Can I just tell you how much better I feel having done that?!?!
I then went through my other magazine "Brides" (ps, this magazine SUCKS unless your wedding budget is stupid high), and clipped out some dresses that I liked and put them in a little pocket in the back of Bertha! I feel totally armed with confidence and will be really prepared when it comes time to meet with vendors and hunt down a location. I can also sit back and relax the next 5 months or so of my engagement before we really need to buckle down and make decisions.
All-in-all, Bertha was a great decision and really helped me relax and focus on what is important: finding things to do while my fiance watches football on Sunday afternoons. :-) Oh, I mean...relaxing and enjoying our pre-nuptial happiness.
Enjoy a fun song!
